SS 316 Invisible Grill in Chennai

Chennai's sea breeze decides how long a stainless steel invisible grill lasts. We fit SS 316 marine-grade cable because it is the grade built for salt-laden coastal air.

SS 316 vs SS 304 vs SS 202

All three look identical on the day of fitting, which is exactly why cheaper quotes are so tempting. The difference is chemistry: SS 316 contains molybdenum, which is what resists chloride — the salt in coastal air and rain.

SS 304 performs well inland but tends to develop tea-staining and pitting within a few years near the coast. SS 202 is the lowest grade commonly offered and can show rust marks on a Chennai balcony within a single monsoon.

  • SS 316: marine grade, best for coastal Chennai
  • SS 304: acceptable inland, stains near the sea
  • SS 202: lowest cost, shortest life
  • High-tensile 2mm cable construction
  • Aluminium tracks with stainless fixings
  • Grade confirmed in writing on your quote

Why the grade matters most in Chennai

Homes in Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, ECR, Neelankarai and the harbour side get constant salt exposure, but even inland areas like Anna Nagar and Ambattur see high humidity for most of the year.

Corrosion rarely starts in the middle of a cable — it starts at the crimp and where the cable enters the track. That is also the point that carries the load, so a rusting grill loses strength before it looks bad.

What you get from us

Every quote we issue names the steel grade, cable thickness and spacing, so you can compare like with like against other dealers. We do not swap grades between quote and fitting.

Cleaning is simply a wipe with a damp cloth. No painting, no annual anti-rust coating, and no re-welding, which is where iron grills quietly cost you more over ten years.

Frequently asked questions

Is SS 316 really necessary in Chennai?

Close to the coast, yes. Chloride in the air attacks lower grades at the crimps and track entries, and that is the part carrying the load.

How much more does SS 316 cost than SS 304?

It carries a modest premium per square foot. We can quote both so you can see the actual difference for your opening.

Will SS 316 cable ever rust?

It is highly rust-resistant rather than magically immune, but with an occasional wipe it stays clean for many years in coastal conditions.

How thick are the cables?

We use 2mm high-tensile stainless cable as standard, which stays visually slim while holding heavy tension.
